This is a short video clip of me playing Space Panic on the Colecovision retro video games console.
Published in 1982 by Universal, Space Panic was originally released in the arcades in 1981.
This then makes it the first platform game, as it predates Donkey Kong, which was released to arcades in 1981.
Climb ladders, run along platforms, avoid monsters, dig holes for said monsters to fall into.... and then smack them on the head with your shovel till they're dead.
I remember this game more as Monsters on the Acorn Electron, and it was also clearly the main influence on what is widely considered one of the worst games on the Sinclair Spectrum, which just happens to be one of my faves on the system... Monsters In Hell.
This and the other retro gaming clips on this site aren't intended as full game reviews, but are simply to give viewers who weren't around when these games were popular, an idea of what video games used to be like.
